外贸英语函电(二)---询价和回复

2.1 Introduction 简介

In a General Enquiry(一般询价),a businessman states clearly all the information he needs--general information,a catalogue,or price list,a sample or sample book,etc。

In a Specific Enquiry(具体询价),he points out what product(s) he wants.He may ask for a catalogue, a price list,samples,etc.,or ask for an offer.

Enquiries should be written concisely and clearly to the point.

The reply to an enquiry should be prompt and courteous and cover all the information asked for.

2.2 Samples 例文

Letter 1 General Enquiry and Reply 一般询价和回复

(Enquiry)

Gentlemen:

We learn from ABC & Co.Ltd.,New York that you are a leading exporter in your country.We are,at present, very much interested in importing your goods and would appreciate your sending US catalogues,sample books or even samples if possible.

Please give US detailed information on CIF Guangzhou prices, discounts, and terms of payment.

We hope this will be a good start for a long and profitable business relations.

Gentlemen:

We welcome you for your enquiry of March 2 1 and thank you for your interest in our export commodities。We are enclosing some copies of our illustrated catalogues and a price list giving the details you ask for.Also under separate cover,we are sending you some samples which will show you clearly the quality and craftsmanship. We allow a proper discount according to the quantity ordered.As to the terms of payment we usually require Letter of Credit payable by sight draft.

1.CIF 价格术语“Cost,Insurance and Freight”,成本、保险加运费的缩写通常称作“到岸价”。

2.discount n. 折扣,折价,贴现

allow(or;give, make, grant)…%discount off(on)the prices of goods

按货价给予……%的折扣

If you order 5,000 sets,we would grant you 10%discount.

7. Letter of Credit payable by sight draft 即期信用证,也可以说L/C available by sight draft

Letter of Credit 信用证,为可数的普通名词,在商业书信中常用大写,单数(a)Letter of Credit,复数为Letters of Credit,且常用大写缩写形式, 即(an)L/C和Ls/C。当用credit表示信用证时,复数为credits。

(1)信用证有即期和远期之分,即期信用证可以有如下表示:

a letter of credit available by draft at sight或a letter of credit payable against draft at sight,也可以说a letter of credit available by(或payable against)sight draft,还可以说a letter of credit(or:an L/C)at sight或sight letter of credit(or:sight L/C)。

(2)远期(或迟期)信用证是usance L/C或time L/C或term L/C常见的有见票后30天议付的信用证,见票后60天议付的信用证及见票后90天议付的信用证。见票后多少天议付的信用证的表达法很多,下面以见票后30天议付的信用证为例,列举几种比较常见的说法:

L/C available by draft at 30 days after sight;

(usance/time/term)L/C at 30 days after sight;

(usance/time/term)L/C at 30 days;

30 days(usance/time/term)L/C.

(3)有关信用证的部分常见词组:

confirmed L/C保兑信用证

irrevocable L/C 不可撤消信用证

documentary L/C跟单信用证 ,

transferable and divisible L/C 可转让与可分割信用证

revolving L/c循环信用证

back to back L/C 背对背信用证

reciprocal L/C对开信用证

8.assure v. 向……保证,使确信,主要用于以下四种结构:

(1)assure sb.of sth.

We assure you of the reliability of,the information. 我们可以向你方保证这信息的可靠性。

(2)assure sb.that

We assure you that we shall do our best to expedite shipment. 请确信我们将迅速装运。

(3)be(or:rest)assured of sth.(rest是系动词)

Please(or: You may) be(or: rest) assured of our continued cooperation. 请确信我方仍将继续合作。

(4)be(or:rest)assured that

You may(Please)be(rest)assured that we will contact you as soon

Enquiry for Chinese Cotton Piece Goods 对中国棉织品的询价

Dear Sir,

We are glad to note from your letter of March 9 that, as exporters of Chinese Cotton Piece Goods, you are desirous to entering into direct business relations with us. This happens to coincide with our desire.

At present, we are interested in Printed Shirting and shall be pleased to receive from you by airmail catalogues, samples and all necessary information regarding these goods so as to acquaint us with the quality and workmanship of your supplies. Meanwhile please quote us your lowest price,C.I.F.Vancouver, inclusive of our 5% commission, stating the earliest date of shipment.

Should your price be found competitive and delivery date acceptable, we intend to place a large order with you.

1. be desirous of doing/ be desirous to do 渴望做某事

2. regarding prep 关于, 与 with regard to, in regard to, as regards同义,一般可以通用。

Regarding the balance, we will advise you of the position in a few days.关于剩余数量的情况,将于日内告知。

3. quote v. 报价

(1)quote sb. a price for sth.

Please quote us your lowest price for walnuts. 请向我方报核桃最低价。

(2)quote sb. for sth.

Please quote us for walnuts. 请向我方报核桃价。

(3)quote sb. A price

Please quote us your lowest price. 请报你方最低价。

4. inclusive of our 5% commission 请报我方5%佣金。

2.3 Supplement:Some Useful Sentences 实用句子的补充

(1)We understand that you are exporters of foodstuffs and should like to know if you can supply US with 1 0 metric tons of A一1Grade Canned Asparagus。 据悉,你方系食品出口商。我们想了解你方是否可供10吨甲级罐装竹笋。

(2)We read with interest your advertisement in the China Daily and should be glad to receive particulars of your tender for port construction. 我们对你方在《中国日报》上刊登的广告很感兴趣,现请告你方港口建设投标的详细情况。

(3)We are interested in the mechanical toys demonstrated at the recent Guangzhou Trade Fair and should be glad to have details of your export terms.我们对你们最近在广州交易会上展列的机械玩具感兴趣,请详告你们的出口条件。

(4)We sell various kinds of furniture in the Philippines.Please quote best price CFR Manila for your furniture and tell US the earliest possible date of delivery.我们在菲律宾销售各类家具。请报你方家具最优惠的成本加运费到马尼拉价,并告知最早交货期。

(5)Please study the samples,and let US know the printing and processing costs including our 4%commission. 请研究此样,并告包括我方4%佣金的印花和加工费用。

(6)Enclosed please find samples of our grade A 3.5 Microfloppy disks。If you are able to supply US with 5,000 packs,each pack contains 10,we would be pleased to have you quote the lowest price CIF Shanghai.随附A级3.5型微软软盘样品,如能供我5 000盒,每盒l0张,请报成本加保险费、运费到上海最低价。

(7)We would also like to know the minimum export quantities per colour and per design. 我们还想了解各类商品的每种颜色和花样的最低出口起售量。

(8)We should appreciate it if you would let US know what discount you may grant US if we place an order for 20,000 pieces. 如蒙告知,倘若我方订购20 000件,你方能给予多少折扣,将不胜感激。

(9)We have the pleasure of sending you a pamphlet which describes how to operate our new dishwashing machine。 现寄上关于如何使用我们新式洗碗机的小册子一份。

(10)T0 enable you to have better understanding of our Hard-ware,we are sending you by air parcel post a selection of their representative samples for your scrutiny.Your early comments will be highly appreciated. 为使你方更好地了解我方的五金产品,今选出代表性的样品包裹航寄你方供你方细阅。如能早日回复将不胜感激。

(11)Under separate cover, we are sending you one sample pad for the synthetic fabric dress materials we are exporting at present.We hope some of the designs and colours will prove to your liking。另行寄上我方目前出LI的合成纤维衣料布样,希望某些花样及颜色使你方喜欢。
